GEM is the National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science and the Chemistry Department at Rice has a group of graduate students who follow their mission (Chem GEM).
Chem GEM focuses on inclusion, equity, and promotion of underrepresented minorities within the Chemistry Department at Rice University. The Chem GEM community consists of underrepresented minorities, providing an additional safe space for students to share their experiences and grow together scientifically. These students are further supported by additional opportunities to attend conferences and career development seminars. Chem GEM members also invite and host culturally diverse scientists for colloquiums and have a platform to work towards a more diverse graduate community.
